Nutrition services

Proper nutrition can be as crucial as the right therapy or medication. A nutritionist helps ensure your diet and lifestyle enable you to have good health. They offer specialized meal planning, education and support to establish healthier habits.

Nutrition counseling and education

If your condition requires help managing your diet, we provide comprehensive support.

In Western North Carolina, Mission Health's registered dietitians use medical nutrition therapy to treat and manage your illness. Our services — such as one-on-one counseling, education and diabetes meal plans — get you on the path to better health.

Conditions helped by medical nutrition therapy

Your health needs may benefit from a nonsurgical, dietary approach. Our nutrition professionals treat conditions such as:

  • Cancer
  • Celiac disease
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Diabetes
  • Digestive conditions
  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Malnutrition
  • Obesity
  • Ulcerative colitis

Our outpatient nutrition programs

If you are in need of nutritional counseling and lifestyle changes, let us support you in your efforts. Our nutrition specialists give you access to tools for better health.

Nutrition education and counseling

Nutrition counseling is also known as medical nutrition therapy. It can include a one-on-one consultation with a registered dietitian, which is designed to meet your specific nutrition needs and help you make lasting lifestyle changes. We provide a variety of consultation services to help improve symptoms of chronic conditions and your overall health.

We also offer helpful cooking lessons. Our professionals provide nutritional information along with hands-on practice in creating healthy recipes.

Eating disorders

Our nutrition teams are not trained to assist with eating disorders. If you or someone you know is dealing with an eating disorder, we recommend you seek a mental health and wellness program that specializes in the type of care you need.

Physician referral needed

A physician referral is required by most insurance services for our program. Have your physician complete our physician referral form. Not all insurance plans cover nutrition counseling, so please check with your plan.

Our main office is located on the third floor at 1 Hospital Drive in Asheville. Your physician can contact our facilities at the numbers below:
