Mission Hospital's antepartum high-risk unit specializes in individualized maternal fetal medicine for women in our surrounding communities. In addition to your high-risk pregnancy doctor, also known as a perinatologist, you have a team of experts by your side, including:

Perinatal nurse navigator
As part of our commitment to guiding you through your high-risk prenatal care, you will have a perinatal nurse navigator on your team. This caregiver can help with understanding the additional care you need, give you a personalized tour and regularly check in to answer any questions you have.

What makes a pregnancy high-risk
If your pregnancy has been deemed high-risk, you may wonder why. Some reasons are a matter of circumstance, such as being over 35 years old or having a preexisting health condition. Some women develop gestational diabetes or preeclampsia (which generally resolve after giving birth). Even having multiples (e.g., twins or triplets) means you need extra attention and care.
Other reasons your pregnancy may be high-risk:

Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
Our hospital offers attentive, 24/7 care for your newborn if they need it after childbirth. We have the only Level III NICU in the region, which can care for your baby if they are born with an illness or prematurely. Each room is equipped with a remote camera system that lets you view your baby if you cannot be in the NICU all the time.
