Hip and knee surgery
Your hips and knees are key to stabilization and mobility. Since surgery can be sometimes necessary to keep them functioning as they should, the severity of your condition will ultimately determine whether you need a total or partial replacement. Regardless of which procedure you may need, we always prioritize the use of minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. Using a series of tiny incisions, this technique gives you the chance for enhanced function, with minimal scarring, a faster recovery and a shorter hospital stay. Thanks to the combination of our experienced team and advanced prosthetics approaches, our hip and knee preservation surgeries usually only require a one-to-two-day hospital stay.
Orthopedic trauma care
Our hospital is home to Western North Carolina's only team of fellowship-trained orthopedic trauma surgeons, as well as the region's only designated Level II Trauma Center. We offer 24-hour coverage, and are eager to meet with you when you have experienced an emergency, are considering an elective surgery or have a follow-up appointment for a previous visit. Our trauma specialists also work in close coordination with both our postoperative inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient physical therapy teams, in order to get you on the road to recovery as soon as possible.
Pediatric orthopedic care
Our hospital has dedicated pediatric units to treat your children with the same level of care that we treat adults. As your body develops and grows into itself, your younger years become more important, so issues affecting your kids need to be addressed immediately to avoid long-term damage. The pediatric orthopedic unit is led by a team of specialists with extensive knowledge regarding the foundations of and remedies for issues affecting the growth patterns of children and adolescents.
Total shoulder replacement
At Mission Hospital, our orthopedic surgeons perform more total shoulder replacements than any other hospital in Western North Carolina. A total shoulder replacement procedure replaces damaged cartilage and your shoulder bone with a prosthesis. This procedure can result in significant pain relief and a more natural range of movement, allowing you to quickly return to daily activities, light labor and sporting activities, such as yoga, swimming and golf.
