Child abuse prevention and treatment
Our child safety teams work with Mountain Child Advocacy Center — located at Mission Children's Hospital, which can be found on the third floor of Mission Hospital.
Leaders in child advocacy
Our highly skilled professionals have special training to help children who are victims of abuse or neglect.
Our services
We provide medical evaluations for nearly 700 children each year who have been allegedly abused or neglected. Our program is part of a statewide network of child abuse specialists, serving 20 counties — one of the largest areas of the state.
Our forensic practitioners provide consultation to the most complex cases involving suspected neglect or abuse of children from birth to 21 years old. We work closely with law enforcement officials, social services agencies and child advocacy centers throughout Western North Carolina. Our child safety team is one of eight recognized state programs that provide advanced training for child abuse evaluations.
For questions about child abuse prevention and treatment please call the Mountain Child Advocacy Center at (828) 213-9824.
Evaluation and referral process
Referrals for evaluation are made by the Division of Social Services (DSS), a law enforcement official, emergency department staff or a physician.
