Heart testing and treatments
To help you monitor and improve your heart health, we provide many different diagnostic tools and tests, such as:
- Echocardiograms — This detailed ultrasound checks the function and structure of your heart, allowing your doctor to assess how well your heart is pumping. Echocardiograms can diagnose a range of cardiovascular conditions, such as cardiomyopathy and valve disease.
- Flu shots — Believe it or not, getting your annual flu shot is more important if you have heart disease, as heart disease makes it harder to combat the flu. As a result, the flu can worsen your cardiac condition and put you at higher risk for a heart attack.
- Holter monitors — This diagnostic tool is a small, portable electrocardiogram (ECG) that measures heart rate and rhythm for 24 hours. A specialist will attach electrodes to your chest before helping you put on the Holter monitor. Since the monitor can't get wet, you can't bathe, shower or swim, but you can do your other daily activities. After the test period, your specialist will prepare a report based on the record of your heart activity.
- Stress testing — During this exercise test, a specialist will observe how efficiently blood pumps to your heart through your arteries as you walk on a treadmill or ride a stationary bike.
Cardiac rehabilitation
If you've experienced a heart condition or undergone surgery, cardiac rehabilitation can help improve your health. Customized to your unique health goals, your heart treatment could involve communication with your physician, education about your risk factors, medically supervised exercise and group support.
