Our breast care offerings

For optimal breast health, we believe in a multifaceted approach. This may mean a combination of annual screenings, self-examinations and other modes of care.

Imaging and screening tests

To help you maintain and improve your breast health, we provide many diagnostic tests, including:

  • 3D mammography: Around 40 percent of women have dense breasts, which can make it difficult to detect problem areas. For these women, 3D mammograms are a helpful tool because they produce a clearer picture of breast tissue than traditional mammograms.
  • Bone density scan (DEXA): If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, then your bone health may be impacted. The DEXA scan measures bone mineral density. The results of the scan allow our specialists to personalize your treatment plan.
  • Breast ultrasound: This imaging test uses sound waves to look at the inside of your breasts. Though ultrasounds aren't typically used as a routine screening tests for breast cancer, they can show changes in your breasts, such as lumps. Breast ultrasounds are also useful because they can tell the difference between fluid-filled masses, like cysts, and solid masses.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): An MRI is a noninvasive imaging test that gives your care team important information in diagnosing your condition and designing a treatment plan. If you have a high risk of getting breast cancer, our specialists may recommend an MRI along with a yearly mammogram.

Self-examinations for breast care

It's important to regularly examine your breasts, and we have five easy steps to help guide you:

  1. With your hands on your hips, examine your breasts in a mirror. Look for any changes in size, shape and color, or any signs of swelling.
  2. Raise your arms and look for the same changes.
  3. Look for any signs of fluid coming out of one or both nipples.
  4. While lying down, check your breasts with your finger pads. Try to feel for any abnormalities or lumps. Move your fingers in a circular motion, covering your entire breast from top to bottom, side to side.
  5. While standing or sitting, feel your breasts for any lumps or abnormalities.
