“Each one of those days represent an opportunity for a possible infection. And yet, through great care, the team here at Highlands has prevented those infections.”

Highlands-Cashiers Hospital celebrated an impressive infection prevention milestone last week: 10 years without a Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) or Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection (CLABSI). For perspective, Highlands-Cashiers Hospital has had more than 2600 catheter device days over the last ten years. “Each one of those days represent an opportunity for a possible infection. And yet, through great care, the team here at Highlands has prevented those infections,” said Tommie Blalock, Highlands-Cashiers Hospital Infection Prevention Specialist.  Of all the types of healthcare-associated infections, CAUTIs are the most common, making up 40% of all hospital-associated infections. Congratulations to the team at HCH!
