Asheville, N.C. — Mission Hospital announced today it successfully exceeded its goal of hiring 90 medical-surgical nurses in 90 days ahead of schedule, marking a significant step in strengthening patient care across western North Carolina.

“Reaching this goal ahead of schedule reflects the dedication of our recruitment teams and the strong interest from nurses who want to make a difference in our community,” said Jorie Matijevich, regional vice president of human resources for Mission Health. “While workforce challenges continue across healthcare, we are focused on building and supporting a strong team to meet the needs of our patients.”

Mission Health continues to prioritize hiring and recruitment efforts across the hospital – adding approximately 400 hires to the team since January and hosting or participating in nearly 40 recruitment events over the last three months. While enhanced sign-on bonuses were part of a comprehensive strategy to recruit new full- and part-time nurses, Mission also realizes that its own colleagues are the best recruiters, helping bring in applicants that they want as co-workers. Current employees earn significant referral bonuses for each colleague they refer who joins Mission Health.

In addition to registered nurse recruitment, Mission Health is investing in the future workforce through paid-to-learn programs that allow individuals to train as Medical Assistants or Certified Nursing Assistants, or accelerate their Imaging career with fast-track programs like Rad Tech to Certified CT Tech or MRI certification, while earning a paycheck.

Those interested in learning more about these programs or joining the Mission Health team can learn more on the Mission Health Careers page.
